A WALTHAM Abbey man has launched a website selling handmade and bespoke bird boxes.
Peter Bagg, of Rounton Road, set up the site after seeing a demand for his carefully crafted boxes.
He said: “I’ve been involved in woodwork for the past 20 years and I’m always building bits and pieces.
“I founded the company back in 2000 after many years of building site work, and I started specialising in producing bespoke items in wood and occasionally metal.
“The idea of making bespoke bird boxes just came up one night and slowly over the past year or two the idea has developed to what it is today.” Some of Peter’s designs include a church, a crypt, a castle and a house. But most of his work is done by commission and he prefers building more unusual products.
For a recent commission he made a bird box in the shape of a swan and has also made a replica hobbit house from Lord of the Rings.
His standard bird boxes start at about £15 but commissioned work can cost between £120 and £150. bespoke boxes can take up to three weeks to be made.
Peter explained that all his bird boxes were finished to a high quality: “All of my products are hand made from top quality birch ply purchased from renewable sources, and finished using water based high quality outdoor paints. “They are constructed using waterproof pva and mitrelock joints ensuring strength and durability.”
Peter added: “Its something I really love doing and I enjoy making things for other people.”
Peter launched the website to bring his unique products to a wider audience.
